To launch UNA-Canada’s 2009 Annual General Meeting, you are invited to attend a Public Panel Discussion on: Canada's Campaign for a UN Security Council Seat - "Slam-dunk or Long Shot?”
A look at the risks and challenges that are inherent, both in the campaign to win a non-permanent seat in the next elections (in the fall of 2010) and during a two-year term itself.
Speakers:
Chair: Allan Gotlieb Senior Advisor (Toronto) Bennett Jones LLP and former Deputy Minister, Foreign Affairs
Panelists: Yves Fortier Chairman Emeritus Ogilvy Renault (Montréal) and former Canadian Ambassador to the UN (1988-1991)
Paul Heinbecker Distinguished Research Fellow at CIGI and former diplomat (including Cdn Amb to the UN 2000-2003)
Bob Rae Liberal Foreign Affairs Critic and former President, Forum of the Federations, Olivia Ward Toronto Star writer on foreign affairs, beginning with the United Nations in the late 1980s.
