Looking for an entry to a career in development? There are many possibilities, including the UN's Junior Professional Officer programme. The JPO programme, aimed at young people with advanced degrees in public affairs, offers a variety of jobs with the UN's various development agencies, such as the World Health Organization or the United Nations Population Fund. This programme gives its employees "hands-on experience in multi-lateral technical co-operation" in positions all over the world, focussing on developing nations and offers the necessary training for these jobs.

Other UN agencies such as UNICEF run similar programmes, and many countries offer internship and introductory civil service programs. For example, Australia has a comprehensive programme aimed at new graduates in all fields, not just public policy.
