This change allows PolicyNet staff to provide more in-depth coverage of public policy news and events. As always, we continue to welcome your input. If you have a news item or event you would like featured on our website, or in an upcoming newsletter, please contact us at: info@policy-net.org

PolicyNet founder Anne-Marie Slaughter to join the Obama administration as Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. Department of State

After seven years as Dean at the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs, Anne-Marie Slaughter has left Princeton to join Hillary Clinton as Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. Department of State. During her illustrious term as Dean, Anne-Marie has accomplished much. In addition to founding PolicyNet in 2005, Dr. Slaughter is credited with rebuilding the International Relations faculty at Woodrow Wilson, expanding the MPP program and creating a joint PhD degree in social policy. That Dr. Slaughter has decided to engage in public service should come as little surprise to those who know her. Anne-Marie is well known for her staunch support of Princeton's participation in the public service, as demonstrated by her founding of the Scholars in the Nation's Service Initiative. Dr. Slaughter is joined by Future of Children senior editor Cecilia Rouse who has been recruited on President Obama's Council of Economic Advisors. PolicyNet wishes both Anne-Marie and Ms. Rouse all the best in their new endeavors.

The Crawford School continues to make gains with its East Asia Forum (EAF). Launched in 2006 and run from the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research (EABER), the purpose of this forum is to, “provide a platform for the best in East Asian analysis, research and policy comment on the Asia-Pacific region and world affairs.” Currently the EAF features content from Australian, East Asian and Asia-Pacific perspectives, with various regular and guest bloggers from the region.

Within the span of two years EAF has been able to attract a diverse set of contributors which, in addition to postings by ANU faculty, include: the Editor of Asahi Shimbun, the Chief Asia Economist for Citigroup and a host of other policy officials. The EAF has received considerable media attention from networks such as: Reuters, ABC, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Huangqiu, and other online policy forums. LKY Students Set to Print First Copy of the Asian Journal of Public Affairs

Published online since 2007, the Asian Journal of Public Affairs (AJPA) “focuses on public affairs issues in wider Asia including the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Asia Pacific region.” This January, students at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy will publish their first printed edition of AJPA. Congratulations to members of the AJPA editorial staff for this achievement.

Student journals provide a much needed creative outlet for students to hone their writing skills and to engage within the broader public policy debate. AJPA is but one of the outstanding student-run journals housed at our members schools.
