| PolicyNet Holds third Virtual Seminar with Dr. Zhiyuan Cui On March 18th, PolicyNet held its third Virtual Seminar. This time the speaker was Dr. Zhiyuan Cui of the Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management who discussed, China's Savings Glut and whether it is Responsible for the Current US Financial Crisis. Faculty, policy officials and students from around the world were able to engage in real time discussions on this very timely topic. Joining Tsinghua was the: Crawford School of Economics and Government, Hertie School of Governance (via webcast), Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and the Balsillie School of International Affairs (University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University). Also participating in this event were several guest members such as the Philippines House of Representatives (Congressional Planning and Budget Department), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and the Canada School of Public Service. All combined, this was PolicyNet's largest seminar ever! Woodrow Wilson School to host two day Colloquium attended by Ban Ki-moon From April 17th to 18th, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs will be hosting their seventh annual colloquium on Public and International Affairs entitled, Prosperity or Peril? The Next Phase of Globalization. This multidisciplinary colloquium will examine the process of globalization since the end of the Cold War and consider how globalization might unfold in the future. Specifically this colloquium will focus on two questions: "Will nations seek to cut themselves off from a world that threatens to import more peril than promise? Or will states redefine the meaning of borders and find genuinely global ways to confront common problems?" Among the various speakers making presentations at this event will be Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon who will discussing The Imperative for a New Multilateralism. Other speakers will include: Paul Krugman, Professor of Economics and International Affairs and last year's Nobel Prize winner in Economics; Mark Watson, Interim Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs; and Zhu Fenge, Director of the International Security Program at the School of International Studies, Peking University. PolicyNet Announces New Website This month PolicyNet will be upgrading its website with a new design and more user friendly features. In addition to existing features such as the ability to upload files, create communities, write blogs, forums, view events and read news and job postings; the new site will incorporate new features such as a multimedia player for audio, a slideshow option for gallery albums, commenting and rating for documents, the ability to enable social bookmarking and new video functions. Furthermore, PolicyNet users will now have access to the many resources offered by our CIGI Library.
