Confronting the Challenges of International Support for Democratic Development

A dialogue hosted by Governance Village of CIGI and the Parliamentary Centre

Governance Village (GV), an online knowledge network that promotes dialogue and collaboration on issues of governance and international development, will host an e-dialogue in early November that brings together Canadian and international experts, practitioners, decision-makers, and the general public to discuss how democracy can be strengthened around the world.

Working in partnership with Ottawa’s Parliamentary Centre (PC), the dialogue will advance the theme of Confronting the Challenges of International Support for Democratic Development. The goal of this project is to create a foundation of democratic governance practitioners and decision-makers that are engaged, maintain a dialogue, and share knowledge resulting in positive policy changes on a global level. Recently, the Centre’s past president Robert Miller and current president Amelita Armit discussed the initiative on the GV News Blog.

Building on the July 2007 Report of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development entitled “Advancing Canada’s Role in International Support for Democratic Development” the e-dialogue will strengthen and promote Canadian leadership in democratic development.

The results of the e-dialogue will be carried forward to a roundtable discussion taking place in early December. The goal of both dialogues will be to keep democratic development in the policy forefront and as a priority within the international development community of practice.

Register now to share your views with world-renowned policy-makers when the discussion starts this November.
